THANK YOU to John at bodyFi! Two months ago, I was a demoralized couch potato. Several years of a basically sedentary lifestyle and a not-so-healthy relationship with rich foods had pushed the numbers on the scale to places I'd never seen before. My clothes didn't fit, and I didn't understand why I kept gaining more and more weight. I felt stuck, overwhelmed, and angry with myself. I needed serious help, and when I called master trainer John Nguyen, I got it. I've been working out with John 3x a week (one day a week at bodyFi's tidy Van Ness studio, and two days in my home), and two months later my body looks and feels completely different. I have a waist again! With John's guidance and sane nutritional advice, I've dropped over 12 pounds and 8 inches...during the holidays, I might add. John is a knowledgeable, dedicated professional. He's particularly great at knowing just how far to push me to keep the workouts challenging, without feeling like torture...I always finish a session feeling strong and proud of myself. I've felt so encouraged by my progress and how I feel that I actually ENJOY exercising and look for opportunities (hiking, yoga, etc.) on my own. I'm so grateful for this change in my life...personal training with John has been worth every penny and every minute!
The best personal trainer! I have been seeing John since the middle of last October. This was my first time with a personal trainer and I couldn't be happier with John N and the results. I have lost over 25 plus pounds and over four dress sizes. John has been the best. He listens and discusses your goals and tailors workouts to your body type. John also provides nutritional counseling and ideas about meals. I am stronger and leaner than I have ever been thanks to John. Incorporating personal training into my routine has really helped me reach my goals.
The 30 minute workouts with John are awesome! I get the burn without it interrupting my day. The workouts are always different and a lot of fun. The results have been great. John has taught me a lot about nutrition as well so now I'm eating, feeling and looking better than ever before. I highly recommend Jon @ WeWin Fitness in Hillcrest San Diego! 5 stars!
I have low back problems, but remained active until my early thirties when I pretty much stopped doing anything at all. With my mid-thirties looming, I decided enough was enough and hired a personal trainer. Unfortunately, I managed to blow my back out big time, and was recommended to have a spinal fusion by a neurosurgeon. As a nurse, I've seen what happens later on down the surgery road, and opted out of an invasive spine procedure. Instead, I came on Yelp and found Jon at his SF studio - he had glowing reviews. Here I am 4 months later with less back pain than I can remember having in 10 years. Jon listens to me. He is knowledgeable, attentive and works with me paying close attention to my limitations so I don't injure myself. He checks in with me regularly and adjusts my exercises as needed to protect my back. His calm demeanor makes me comfortable, he's approachable, the scheduling is very flexible, they have a great website that keeps my training organized and allows me to self-schedule when I have time, way in advance. Being a good personal trainer, in my opinion, requires more than just experience or knowledge. Jon is exceptional because he's perceptive -- he pays attention to where you're at and knows how to push you the right amount so you make gains but don't dread working out. He sits quietly next to me while I jump around and lift weights, correcting my form as needed, moving me efficiently through the muscle groups, checking in to see how I feel and if I'm experiencing pain or soreness. And to top things off he has a very cute, well-behaved puppy that sometimes sits in the corner and watches me work out. I like the Jon's SF studio because it's small and intimate and the people who work there are friendly, upbeat and motivating. I find myself really looking forward to each session, and the changes I've seen in my body are awesome after just a day or two a week of training for 4 months. Stop by and check it out for yourself!
Jon is the best personal trainer you could hope for. He is extremely knowledgeable and patient and mixes in a lot of really cool exercises. Also, he intuitively knows when to ramp down or ramp up pace in a session based on your performance that day, which is incredibly valuable. I trained with Jon for 1.5 years, 2-3 times per week, ending in December 2018. I can’t wait to work out with Jon in SD when I’m in the area!!!!!!!!!
After over a year of complete inactivity and being chained to my desk, I finally decided to start moving my body again. On a friend's recommendation, I contacted Jon for some much-needed personal training. Boy am I glad I did, because I think he's easily the best personal trainer I've ever had. My two big concerns were my awful back pain that had finally started getting better and which I didn't want to trigger, and the fear of doing too much too quickly because it had been so long since I had exercised. As it turned out, I didn't need to worry on either score. I told Jon about my back and he was very attentive to my level of pain and made sure we stopped immediately if something felt off-kilter. But his expertise is such that almost nothing ever has because he knows what movements to avoid for people with my issue. The other impressive part is his pacing -- he started slowly and over the course of a few months gradually got me up to the point that I was noticing an improvement in my stamina and fitness level. For example, from barely being able to do one set of 8 pushups (on my knees) to doing 3-4 sets of 10 (on my toes) over the course of the workout. Or from barely eking out one set of 10 squats or walking lunges to being able to complete 4-5 sets of them - -all with his signature attentiveness, patience, support and encouragement. The kicker came when a friend decided he was going to follow Jon's structured program for 30 days [3 workouts/week, 3 cardio sessions/week, and nutrition/diet plan with snacking and drinking guidelines]. I decided to sign up for it too, to get ready for a trip to Palm Springs. The thought of taking my shirt off by the pool was a bit terrifying. But after 30 days I dropped 3.3% body fat, 5 pounds, and a full inch from my waist. Most importantly, I toned up like I hadn't been in YEARS. When the moment of truth came poolside, my friends couldn't believe my new physique. And you'd better believe their comments felt great. I have been so inspired and pleased, I'm signing up for another Jon-created program immediately, and envision I will continue to make it the center of my fitness routine. I have my 50th birthday coming up and expect I will be feeling and looking 20 years younger, thanks to him. My advice: Even if you don't think you could possibly benefit, or are too anxious to even try, give personal training with Jon a shot. If I can do it, anybody can. And at this point I can't imagine NOT doing it."
